Authenticated by CGC (named grader), auction closes August 8; reported by Sports Collectors Digest, July 8
A lost T206 Honus Wagner spent decades as a paperweight. It goes to auction in August
The Die-Cut Wagner, a T206 Honus Wagner missing from public view for decades, has resurfaced: its owner had unknowingly been using it as a paperweight. CGC graded it Authentic - Restored, with VP of Grading Andy Broome confirming it is real. Sports Collectors Digest traces it from a $1 New Jersey shop find in the mid-1970s to a near-$10,000 auction sale in the mid-1990s. Love of the Game Auctions closes bidding August 8. Any Wagner surfacing is hobby news; one with this backstory is a museum piece with a punchline.
